Toronto Mentorship Programme 2020
C40 in partnership with the City of Toronto will contribute to the emergence of the next generation of climate leaders by sharing knowledge and experience through a mentorship program dedicated to women working on climate issues to create a healthier, more sustainable and resilient urban future in C40 cities.
The C40 Women4Climate Mentorship Program matches forward-looking mentors from politics, business sector, international organisations, and civil society with mentees. The mentors will share their knowledge and experiences supporting the mentees to become powerful leaders in their chosen field, including politics, NGOs, business, media and community groups.
Toronto is the sixteenth city to launch a Women4Climate Mentorship Program, and the third city in Canada.
The Women4ClimateTO (W4CTO) supports and empowers 12 female-identifying participants who live and/or work in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), providing them with a programme that combines mentorship, networking, collaborative learning opportunities and a pitch competition.
Women4ClimateTO acknowledges the immediate need for partnership with Indigenous communities, and leadership by Indigenous women, Elders, knowledge keepers, land defenders, and water protectors in order to effectively address the impacts of climate change on Turtle Island.
The aim of the W4CTO programme is to promote the advancement of projects that align with the objectives of the following city strategies:
- TransformTO is the City’s ambitious climate action strategy which lays out a set of long-term, low-carbon goals and strategies to reduce local greenhouse gas emissions and improve our health, grow our economy, and improve social equity.
- ResilienceTO sets out a vision, goals, and actions to help Toronto survive, adapt and thrive in the face of any challenge, particularly climate change and growing inequities
