Julie Lussier possesses multiple work experiences related to the clothing industry. Having worked as a Sales and Marketing Coordinator, Buyer and Brand Manager from co-ops to large corporations. She has also been involved in a 100% eco venture when the sustainability movement in textile industry was forward thinking back in 2006. At that moment she developed an interest for unconventional business practices and passion for sustainability based on the realization of the negative impact of the supply chain on the environment and working conditions in both the fashion and outdoor industry. Julie’s passion for outdoor activities combined with an intention to find purpose behind her work naturally led her over the years to a career as a sustainability manager at Indygena.
Indygena, where Julia is sustainability manager, is a Montreal-based outdoor clothing start-up. Julie plans to drive Indygena’s sustainability practices by working to replace its materials such as polyester and other synthetic fibres made from fossil fuels by 2025, changing to sustainable alternatives and assessing their impact. She also wants to influence Indygena’s choice of business partners, since these should be based on common values around sustainability practices in areas such as supply chain, working conditions, and social impact.
MOTIVATION FOR AND COMMITMENT TO CREATING A BETTER AND MORE SUSTAINABLE PLANET
"Environmental issues have been a concern of mine for a while. Humans are part of nature. I believe it is urgent to recognise that we are the reason behind many of the issues we face. Most importantly, that we are part of the solution to fix them as well. Our wellbeing and our future on the planet will depend on the quality of our actions."
