Karla Rubilar was elected mayor of Santiago in March 2018. She previously served as a deputy from Chile’s 17th district from 2006 to 2018. She began her public service career by working on several public health initiatives including the permanent commissions on Citizen Security and Drugs, Health, and Nationality and Citizenship. Mayor Rubilar holds a bachelor’s degree in medicine from the University of Santiago and a master’s in public health from the University of Chile. She currently resides in Santiago with her husband and four children: Patricio, Laura, Karla and Rubén.
