Throughout her career in marine conservation she has led and worked on several projects within NGOs, government, the private sector and in academia. Working globally has opened opportunities to tackle common marine environmental issues from different perspectives. Her professional goal is to connect oceans and people to ensure sustainable management of marine resources and its ecosystem services.

PROJECT

Oceanogami is an international consultancy specializing in ocean sustainability and blue economy. We act as a liaison between companies, governments, non-governmental organizations, research centers and other institutions that have a relationship with the marine environment. We provide consultancy services, help to build capacity, and create awareness for marine conservation.

During my marine scientist career working globally, I realized of the current needs for connecting the different sectors to protect the oceans (private sector, public and society...). “Oceano” is the Spanish term for ocean and “Gami”(Japanese: 神, [kaꜜmi]) are the spirits, elements of the landscape and forces of nature. For us this means working together to connect people and oceans. At Oceanogami, we believe in the concept of a “Blue Society”, a vision for society in which people benefit from the ocean while preserving its environmental integrity. Thus, we take a multidisciplinary view, in which cultural, social and economic needs are integrated with environmental objectives in order to create truly sustainable solutions, for example to well-managing our oceans, to mitigate climate change and the impacts of plastics. We also believe in the importance of education, outreach and skill development amongst the participating actors at any level in marine environmental management. Our core values consist of sustainability, education, community and collaboration.

MOTIVATION FOR AND COMMITMENT TO CREATING A BETTER AND MORE SUSTAINABLE PLANET

Working globally has opened me opportunities to tackle common marine environmental issues from different perspectives. We all depend on our environment and particularly the oceans. My professional goal is to connect oceans and people to ensure sustainable management of marine resources and their ecosystem services.
