Project: “Suelo es vida” (Soil is life)

Silvia Aguero is a biologist, with a botanical specialty and a master's degree in soils. She is a university teacher and researcher in the soil sciences and motivator for the celebrations of the “World Soil Day” in the Peruvian Society of Soil Science. She has experience in laboratory services and research in soil microbiology and has therefore decided to socialize her scientific knowledge with schoolteachers. She currently leads a soil biology research group with students from 8th to 10th grades and is a voluntary soil trainer for THE GLOBE program.

PROJECT

The “Suelo es vida” project seeks to transfer knowledge of soil science to regular basic education teachers using environmental education strategies and involving senior researchers and youth research groups with the project, and thus reaching childhood. As a result, influence is sought in new generations from an early age based on principles of behavioral economics, prioritizing a better quality of life with the efficient use of resources and respect for their environmental environment.

MOTIVATION FOR AND COMMITMENT TO CREATING A BETTER AND MORE SUSTAINABLE PLANET

Her main motivation is to deal with the negative effects of anthropic actions, providing scientific knowledge to children so that they will eventually be the main actors in food security and sovereignty decisions. If a child understands that "the soil has life" and needs to be cared for, then the child is already assimilating that the "Soil is health" depends in all of us.
